First time at Basin
The Greek black metal band Yoth Iria was founded in 2019 by Jim Mutilator, a key figure in the Hellenic black metal scene, known for his work with Rotting Christ and Varathron. The band’s name, derived from ancient Greek, reflects their commitment to preserving the roots of the genre while incorporating modern elements. Their debut EP Under His Sway, released in 2020, showcased a blend of traditional black metal with atmospheric and epic nuances, laying the foundation for their gradually evolving sound.
In 2021, Yoth Iria released their first full-length album, As the Flame Withers, through Pagan Records. The album received acclaim for its powerful execution of Hellenic black metal, characterized by soaring melodies, intense rhythms, and the distinctive vocals of Rustam Shakirzyanov (aka He). The band features Jim Mutilator on bass, Nikolas Perlepe on guitar, and Vasilis Stavrianidis on drums. Yoth Iria continues to honor the legacy of Greek black metal while pushing its boundaries, maintaining a strong presence in the underground metal scene.
