First time at Basin
Ye Banished Privateers is a Swedish folk-rock band from Umeå that has been bringing wild tales of pirates and seafarers to the stage since their formation in 2008. With nearly thirty members, their performances transform into living theatrical spectacles where music intertwines with acting and historical costumes. Their songs, inspired by traditional Irish and Scandinavian folk music, tell stories of the harsh life at sea in the 17th and 18th centuries, and of struggles against oppression and nationalism. The band has gained renown not only for their music but also for their energetic and interactive live shows, which immerse audiences in the world of pirates and nautical adventures.
In 2025, they released their new album 'Til the Sea Shall Give Up Her Dead, continuing their tradition of blending folk-rock with elements of punk and shanty. The album delivers a mix of raucous dance tunes and heartfelt ballads, reflecting the varied life at sea—from tempestuous waves to romantic voyages. The band remains true to its philosophy: they are foremost a live act, thriving on stage where they can share their music and stories directly with the audience. Their concerts are a celebration of pirate life, where singing, dancing, and shared experience come together in every moment.
