First time at Basin
Vanir hails from Denmark and has embarked on an intriguing musical journey since their formation in 2009. Although they began and initially gained popularity in the metal scene with their take on folk metal, in 2015 they released their breakthrough EP Aldar Rök and fully embraced the path of melodic death metal. Their music blends classic melodeath techniques with Viking mythology, historical events, and Norse culture, themes that are reflected throughout their lyrics.
In 2024, Vanir released their seventh studio album, Epitome, which focuses on Danish medieval history. Songs like “Twisting the Knife” (inspired by the Stockholm Bloodbath of 1520), “Fall of Arkona” (about the siege of Arkona in 1169), and “Sorte Grethe” (about a battle in which 12,000 men fell defending the rights of the Danish throne) demonstrate their deep interest in historical stories and figures.
