They never belonged to the "big four," but in the thrash heyday, they meant a hell of a lot. And as classic metal makes its way back into mainstream media, many bands have been revived—but this doesn’t automatically mean it’s always a cause for celebration. This, however, is not the case with one of the most distinctive thrash bands, Arizona's Sacred Reich.
Their latest album, "The Awakening", fills the void in their discography, 23 years after "Heal". It’s not just about reminiscing over their '90s-era tracks. With the addition of new guitarist and returning drummer Dave McClain (ex-Machine Head), the rejuvenated quartet has never made complicated songs, and on this new record, they stick with their direct approach. The album features sharp riffs, a solid tempo, occasional melodic vocals, and embraces a selfless hardcore-punk attitude, with a touch of Southern feel.
Sacred Reich delivers honest, unpretentious music that sparks memories of youth and will make you throw on your denim jacket and head to a show—not to reminisce, but to live like you used to.
