Green Jelly ranks among the most unique and enduring bands in rock history. The collective, founded by Bill Manspeaker in 1981, has spent 45 years breaking conventions, setting records, and proving that humor and metal can coexist in spectacular form.

In 1992, the band made history as “the world’s first video-only band,” releasing their breakthrough album Cereal Killer exclusively on VHS. The audio version followed in 1993. This innovative approach paid off immensely, as their satirical remake of “Three Little Pigs” became a cultural phenomenon—reaching #17 on the US Billboard Hot 100, #5 in the UK, and #1 in New Zealand. The accompanying claymation video became an MTV staple and earned nominations for both an MTV Music Award and a Billboard Music Award.

Beyond commercial success, Green Jelly also holds the Guinness World Record for the highest number of band members in history—with more than 1,000 people worldwide participating over the years. This rotating collective even included future Tool members Danny Carey and Maynard James Keenan in the early ’90s; Keenan contributed vocals to “Three Little Pigs,” marking his first hit before Tool’s breakthrough.

In 1994, the band capitalized on their video expertise by opening Green Jellÿ Studios—an audiovisual production company creating music videos for other artists as well as content for television and film. That same year, they wrote and produced the soundtrack for Acclaim Entertainment’s game *Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage*. Their “The Bear Song” appeared in the film *Dumb and Dumber*, and they also collaborated with Hulk Hogan on a UK Top 40 hit, as well as creating “Electric Harley House (of Love)” with KISS members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.

In 2024, Green Jelly launched an Indiegogo campaign to support the release of their “lost” 1994 comic book series—five issues that remained unpublished for 30 years due to being created during the band’s peak fame. This added yet another collectible layer to their extensive mythology.

Today, they have 125,900 monthly Spotify listeners and tour dates scheduled through 2026. Green Jelly continues to attract new generations of fans while maintaining their signature chaos. Their concerts remain legendary experiences, with audiences enthusiastically throwing foam pool noodles at the band—creating the very atmosphere that has defined them for more than four decades.
