DARK TRANQUILLITY are one of the original and most influential melodic death bands to emerge from Sweden in the early 90s. Together with In Flames and At the Gates, they created an explosive new subgenre that combined the intensity of death metal, exploited progressiveness and planted catchy, melodic two-guitar lines. As time went on, so-called Gothenburg death metal became associated with gothic influences, groovy riffing, electronics, or the inclusion of clean vocals, and reached a whole new level atmospherically.
DARK TRANQUILLITY has consistently been one of the most popular bands in Europe, playing all over the world and with their albums climbing to the top of the sales and charts. In March 2020, the band went through a personnel change with the departure of founding guitarist Niklas Sundin. Ten days later, the band began recording an album and recruited guitarists Christopher Amott and Johan Reinholz, who had toured with the band since 2017. This collaboration then resulted in Dark Tranquillity's latest album to date, "Moment".
