American heavyweights Metal Church stand as one of the fundamental pillars that shaped the North American thrash and power metal movement of the 1980s. Formed in Seattle in 1980 by guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof, the band has consistently bridged the gap between the straightforward grit of traditional heavy metal and the razor-sharp speed of West Coast thrash. By pairing razor-precise guitar riffs with massive melodic choruses, they crafted a distinct and immediately recognizable sound signature.
The band sealed their legendary status right from the start with their self-titled debut Metal Church (1984) and its monumental follow-up The Dark (1986).
