Poland's Decapitated stand as one of the most respected names in global death metal, representing the absolute pinnacle of technical precision and uncompromising aggression. Formed in 1996 in Krosno, they shocked the metal world as teenagers with an astonishing degree of musical maturity. Their debut album Winds of Creation (2000), produced by Vader's Peter, instantly made them a global sensation. The subsequent releases Nihility (2002) and especially Organic Hallucinosis (2006) went on to define the modern face of technical death metal.
Decapitated forged a unique sound built on the lightning-fast, mathematically precise guitar riffs of founder and sole songwriter Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka, backed by crushing rhythm work and raw, urgent vocals. Their music seamlessly blends technical complexity with an irresistible groove—rather than showing off technique for its own sake, they deliver an unrelenting mechanical engine that flattens everything in its path.
Their booming career was tragically struck in 2007 by a touring bus accident that claimed the life of brilliant drummer Witold "Vitek" Kiełtyka and left vocalist Covan severely injured. However, Vogg managed to rebuild the band with a new lineup and lead them back to the very top. Albums like Blood Mantra (2014) and Anticult (2017) introduced a more direct, groove-oriented punch with massive hooks, all without losing an ounce of their signature brutality. Signing with Nuclear Blast and releasing Cancer Culture (2022)—which features guest appearances by Machine Head's Robb Flynn and Jinjer's Tatiana Shmayluk—further cemented their spot on the throne of modern extreme music.
