First time at Basin
If anyone is currently holding the torch for raw, filthy, and uncompromising British heavy metal in its purest form, it is Asomvel. Founded in 1993 by guitarist Lenny Robinson and iconic bassist/vocalist Jay-Jay Winter, the band built a cult following on pure grit. Following Jay-Jay’s tragic death in a car accident in 2010, few believed the project could carry on. However, his nephew Ralph Robinson stepped up to take over bass and vocal duties, keeping the flame burning with pure, unadulterated aggression.
Asomvel’s sound makes zero concessions to modern polish or over-engineered production. It is a loud, distorted, and greasy onslaught where the high-octane spirit of Motörhead meets the snotty defiance of UK punk and the raw edge of early NWOBHM. Driven by cranked tube amps, rumbling basslines, and a raspy vocal delivery smelling strictly of beer and gasoline, tracks from albums like Kamikaze (2009) or World Shaker (2019) deliver no-nonsense guitar riffs designed to knock you sideways. Get ready for a proper, high-voltage rock 'n' roll beatdown!
